Classical treatments for neurological disorders

The interpretation Neurological disorders as only Vatavyadhis in Ayurveda is not true in all clinical settings. The signs and symptoms of Neurological , Disorders are numerous and vary vividly from other systems as it affects multiple systems to produce symptoms accordingly. Behavioral changes are also seen in many cases of neurological disorders. Most of the diseases among them are directly influenced by Vata as the controller of Nervous system is vata. Panchakarma, (snehana, svedana and basti) play an important role in the treatment of diseases caused by vata. Judicious application of panchaka treatments can help the physician to successfully treat neurological disorders. This article explores the relationship of vata vyadhis and neurological disorders. Physiological aspects of Vata
In its normal state, vata or vayu sustains all the systems and the organs of the body. It initiates all types of action, coordinates all the sense organs, promotes speech, eliminates excreta, stimulates digestion, controls and promotes mental including thought main factor to initiate cell division and hence shapes up embryo. In deranged state, Vayu gives rise to fear, anxiety confusion, disorientation and delirium agitates mind and affects all sense organs.
Vayu is of five types and they are situated in different parts of body to perform all neurological activity of the body smoothly. These are Prana Vayu, Udana Vayu, Samana Vayu, Vyana Vayu, and Apana Vayu. The location and function of these five types of Vayu are as follows.
